New York Craft Cannabis Cup 2021: Judges Edition (Day 8 – The Finale)

What a bittersweet day! We’ve finally made it to the end and I must say what an amazing journey this has been. It’s Day 8 (the final day🎉) of our New York Craft Cannabis Cup – Judges Edition. Over the past week, I’ve blind-reviewed 16 different amazing strain samples.  I’ve based my reviews and scores on the appearance, aroma, flavor, and effect of each strain sample.  At the end of each night, I recorded my scores so I would have them ready for the September 23rd due date. I must say I definitely learned a few new things while judging this competition, and gained a few favorite strain or two 😩.

I ended the competition off with the final strain samples #10 and #7.💨

I started off with Sample #10 🔎

Appearance – I must say this was actually a very decent strain sample. Bright green color with deep orange hairs spread throughout. The trichomes were spread lightly but they were still glistening. Now, what surprised me about this nugget is when I gave her a gentle squeeze she did feel a bit hard (she still had some spongy feel to her tho). However, after I grounded her up she instantly became soft and fluffy🤯. The manicure/trim was ok, I wasn’t too impressed but I wasn’t really disappointed either.

Aroma: Ok hear me out 😩 I got a sort of sweet funk aroma from this strain sample. Listen, I can’t really explain it ok😩, the best I can do is maybe compare it to some old socks with some strong fresher added on them🤣. Hey, it wasn’t bad so no complaints from me. Once I grounded her up the aroma definitely became more potent.

Flavor: Despite the funk aroma this strain sample was actually pretty good when I inhaled and exhaled. The taste matched the aroma but it wasn’t a turnoff or anything. Weirdly enough, the funk aroma became a bit less potent once I started smoking. I know it’s crazy right🤔. Anyway, I was extremely pleased that there was no funky aftertaste.

Effects: The hits were hard baby, I could have sworn I got a refreshing hit or two or three🤣. This strain sample actually gave me one of my favorite highs. I was super relaxed and definitely SPACE🚀. As soon as I sat down in my favorite comfy chair Mr. Sandman arrived to grace me with is presence 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨.

Our final strain for the competition Sample #7 🔎 –

Appearance – Very beautiful strain sample, deep purple (this nugget was more purple than green in my opinion) and green color with orange hairs lightly throughout. Very light spreading of trichomes, with a pretty decent manicure/trim. She did feel a tad bit dry, however, she did have some softness to her. Once I grounded her up the purple and green colors became so vibrant, I could barely see the orange hairs or trichomes👀.

Aroma: As soon as I opened the pop-top the sweet fruity aroma hit me. Now, I’m not too sure what happened but I could swear after I grounded her up the aroma wasn’t as potent. I hope I wasn’t bugging🤔.

Flavor: The taste was ok, then ended up being a little better. When I smoked the first round with my Elements rolling papers I really didn’t enjoy it much. The taste when I inhaled and exhaled wasn’t doing it for me. However, I did enjoy the second round session that I smoked it with my Juicy Jays Cotton Candy rolling papers. There was also a better taste when I inhaled and exhaled.

Effects: The hits were not hard when I smoked with the Elements rolling papers. When I smoked with the Juicy Jays Cotton Candy rolling papers the hits had some more kick to them. I must say I wasn’t too impressed with this strain sample, however, I did enjoy it a little more with my flavored papers. I got a pretty ok high, I was a bit relaxed but I wasn’t feeling wavy. After I ate two tacos, I did start to feel a little nicer but still wasn’t on my floaty, wavy level.

WooHoo 🙌🏽, we made it all the way to the finale. What an amazing time I had, I enjoyed reviewing and tasting each strain, I can’t wait to share my favorites with you guys. Special shout out to all the Growers in this competition, you really did the damn thing. Thank you for making this such a dope competition, I’m so happy that I took the plunge and decided to become a judge. I’m super excited to see what’s in store for next year. Well, I’m off to go record my final scores and submit them for the final results. Best of luck to all the Growers in the competition. I’ll be back next week to reveal the winners and my personal favorites.

Thank you for enjoying this wild ride with me, until next time
