Create Your Own Happiness!
I literally tell myself this every day, no one can control my emotions except me. I can honestly say I’m embarrassed for the way I’ve let people control my feelings in the past. However, we live and we learn, right? I’ve spent the past few years repairing the damage that I’ve caused myself with negative thinking. Boy, It has NOT been easy 🥺, some days I still fight with it but I’m proud AF how far I’ve come and how I handle negativity.
I remember when I was watching the Sex and The City movie and Samantha asked Charolette if she’s happy every day. Her answer was yes, Charolette stated she may not be happy ALL day but she damn sure is happy EVERY DAY! I couldn’t help but scream YES because lord knows I felt that 🙌🏽🙏🏽. I was determined to walk that same path, I may not be happy all day but I’m going to make it my business to be happy every day.
To get myself in a more positive frame of mind, I started to make sure I found time to incorporate things that I loved into my daily schedule. No matter how busy I am, I’ll make sure to do at least these 10 things below to bring me a little joy throughout the day.
Meditate/Talk to my ancestors: As soon as I wake up, I’ll take some time to get my mind right (clear my mind), think about the day ahead, and talk to my grandparents and my ancestors. I’ll thank them for watching over me, guiding me, and loving me. I’ll thank the universe for another day then I’ll get my day started.
Make my bed: If my bed is not made, then I’ll just feel like I’ve done nothing but stay in bed all day. I swear my mind loves to play tricks on me at times 😩😩. It won’t matter how much work I’ve done that day if I come back and see my bed is not made I will feel so unsatisfied 😩😩. Literally, after I meditate, I’ll get up make my bed then head to the bathroom.
Wake & Bake: Y’all know damn well if I had a list about happiness and weed wasn’t on it then y’all couldn’t trust that list 🤣 😑 (I’m laughing but I’m serious)! Anyway, my day is NOT starting until I have my hot cup of tea and my spliff OK! And, yes I need that exact combination, I can’t have one without the other 😩.
Jesus take the wheel if I don’t 😩 (I’m still a work in progress y’all, bear with me).
Smile at myself in the mirror: If you guys only knew the struggle it use to take to look myself in the mirror you would be super proud of me. There were times that I couldn’t look at myself without seeing failure and defeat. It use to come to the point that I would barely look into a mirror. Those days are over, every day I make sure to smile at myself in the mirror and let myself know how proud I am of ME! How can I expect people to be proud of me and love me if I couldn’t do it for myself? I definitely saw a change in people and how I reacted to things once I put a love spell on myself.
Reading my Comics: Just like my weed, if comics weren’t on this list. Then, you would have had to give this list the side-eye! Reading my comics are my ultimate escape from reality, reading them while high…🙌🏽 nothing really tops that for me! No matter how busy I am, if it’s just one chapter or one issue or an entire trade, I’m going to get some reading time in. Lately, I’ve been purchasing more digital comics so, it’s been a bit easier for me to get some quick reading done since I can read from my iPhone or iPad. I’m currently re-reading The New Avengers: Illuminati.
Watch Easter Egg videos on YouTube: Listen, after the release of a Disney Plus TV show or Marvel/DC Movie, you better believe I’m on YouTube watching Easter Egg and prediction videos. They are sort of a guilty pleasure for me 😩😩.
Go for a walk with my music: Once, I’ve got my Spotify playlist and my AirPods I’ll walk to the middle of earth and back 🤣🤣🤣. I LOVE to take a good walk alone and just vibe out to my music. I get to take in the fresh air, smile at random strangers, and just take in the beautiful scenery. My daily walks to the post office always bring me joy 🥰.
Enjoy moments with my family & close friends: Even if it’s a quick I love you text or a quick lunch date. Spending time with my loved ones and seeing them smile or even venting and releasing stress, makes my day. I always make sure to let them know how much I love and appreciate them, I’m beyond grateful for them and I make sure they know it.
Practice Positivity: I refuse to beat up on myself and then cry about it. I know I’m enough, I know my worth and I know what I can do when I put my mind to it. If something doesn’t come my way, nothing to get depressed about, clearly it wasn’t for me! It took me a long time to learn how to think more positively about myself and life in general. The power of the tongue is a serious thing, and over the past few years, I’ve learned to stop taking it for granted.
Be Grateful: You know, every day one of my Aunts comes home from work, she always says “thank you Lord for another day and another dollar.” So right before bed, I make sure to thank the universe for a day above ground, another day to have the health to run my businesses, and another day I get to see and speak to my loving family and friends.
