First things first rest in peace Uncle Phil
Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air

How are you guys feeling about the reboot of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? I’ve checked out the first four episodes and so far it’s not so bad. I’m actually enjoying the direction that they took for this show. I was expecting a comedy but I’m loving the fact that they made this into a drama series. They kept a lot of the elements from the original show, however, they added more of a modern-day realness and dark twist to it. The reboot (unlike the original) actually gives us more background and showed us why Will had to leave Philly for Bel-Air. Will got caught up in some street shit and ended up getting locked up, he gets bailed out and automatically sent to Bel-Air. I must say, as a former alumnus of Temple University, I love the homage they are paying to the city of brotherly love. The Philadelphia accents, the fashion, the soundtrack – I’m loving it all right now.
Will finally arrives in Bel-Air and we meet Jazz, who happens to be Will’s uber driver. They do some bonding during the ride over to the Bank’s Mansion. I’m definitely excited to see the friendship develop between these two. And, of course, we are patiently waiting for Uncle Phil to throw him out the house π©. Will and Jazz arrive at the mansion and we are introduced to my favorite character from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Hilary Banks, and it looks like she may be my favorite in the reboot as well. I’m glad they didn’t make her an airhead, despite trying to find herself she seems to have a good head on her shoulders this time around. And, hats off to the wardrobe team, they made sure to stay true to the original Hiliary’s dope-ass wardrobe. We also meet Aunt Viv and Uncle Phil, everyone pretty much looks genuinely happy that Will is there. Everyone except Carlton! π
GlamGeeks, I’m not feeling Carlton’s character not one bit, not saying he’s bad (he’s actually doing a great job acting), I just hate him π©π©π©. He wants absolutely no parts of Will and he is making sure that Will knows it. I’ve always loved Carlton in the original series so this is going to take some time to get adjusted to. I’m actually quite surprised that they made him a coke user, but let’s see how this plays out. He also looks like he has some deep mental issues that need to be worked out, maybe that’s why he’s doing coke π€·π½ββοΈ. Hopefully, Will may be able to get him off coke and get some help before things spiral out of control.

Now, another favorite character that I was happy to see was Geoffery. I absolutely love the fact that they took my witty, sarcastic, and loving butler and turned him into a straight gangster butler π©. I swear anytime Geoffery came on the screen I forgot that I was watching Bel-Air and thought I was watching Top Boyπ©. He is definitely more than a butler this time around I’ll tell you that, he’s giving me Alfred from Batman Earth One vibe. More of a fixer than a butler, listen, I’m here for it ok! And, after episode 4 we learn that Geoffery is not the one or the two, OKAY! (aka he is NOT the one to be messed with). Geoffery clearly is going to be putting in some work to make sure problems go away this season. I also we get more of a backstory on him as well.

Oh, I should mention I didn’t really forget about Aunt Viv, Uncle Phil, and Ashley. I’m not really 100% sold on their story yet so I haven’t paid them much attention. Aunt Viv is trying to rediscover her passion as an Artist/Painter that she put aside when she became a mother and wife. Uncle Phil is currently running for District Attorney but is currently facing some challenging issues with African American voters. And, Ashley, well I just want to see how she will drop this bombshell of a secret she has to her family. π€¦π½ββοΈ
All in all, I’m glad I gave this show a chance, I’ll be checking in each week to see if the show continues to improve. The cast is absolutely beautiful and amazing, the soundtrack is dope, the wardrobe is sick, and the storyline is pretty decent (so far). This show is definitely a hidden gem, I highly suggest you give it a chance and check it out. If you got a chance to watch it, leave your thoughts below. Did you love it or do you think they should have left the original alone?
